    Doctors of Newport Heart are all board certified cardiologists and practice exclusively at Hoag Hospital.  They provide a wide range of services including treatment of Coronary Artery Disease, Valvular Heart Disease, Elevated Cholesterol, Peripheral Vascular Disease, Hypertension, Arrhythmias, Pacemakers, Defibrillators, Congestive Heart Failure, and Congenital Heart Disease.

    Richard J. Haskell, M.D.
    Dr. Haskell received his Bachelors degree at Stanford University and his MD from UCLA in 1979.  His did his residency and Fellowship at Harbor-UCLA.  He did one of the first full year Angioplasty fellowships at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles.  He came to Hoag Hospital in 1987. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology.  He currently resides in Newport Beach with his wife & three children.

    Desmond Levin, M.D.

    Dr. Levin attended medical school in Johannesburg, South Africa, and received his medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg in 1981.  He then moved to the United States and studied internal medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, followed by his Chief Residency and Cardiology Fellowship.  He completed an Interventional Fellowship at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles before going into private practice at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach in 1990.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Interventional Cardiology, and Cardiology.  He lives in Newport Beach with his wife and three children.

    Bonnie Gainer, M.D.

    Dr. Gainer completed her undergraduate training at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and then received her Medical Degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 1984. She then went on to complete an Internal Medicine Residency and Cardiology Fellowship at Loma Linda University Medical Center and later a four month Sabbatical in Interventional Cardiology at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles. Dr. Gainer has been in practice at Hoag since 1992 and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Interventional Cardiology, and Cardiovascular Diseases.

    Neala J. Hunter, M.D.

    Dr. Hunter received her bachelors and Medical degrees from The University of Oklahoma, completing studies there in 1989. She did her residency in Internal Medicine at The University of California Irvine where she was also Chief Resident. Her Fellowship in Cardiology was undertaken at Harbor-UCLA, followed by two years of Fellowship training in Cardiac Electrophysiology. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Electrophysiology, and Cardiovascular Diseases and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Hunter is bilingual in Spanish. She resides in Newport Beach and enjoys sailing and running.

    Jeffrey Bruss, M.D.

    Dr. Bruss received his medical degree from the University of Cape Town in 1982. He did his internal medicine residency, cardiology fellowship and interventional fellowship at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology. He currently resides in Irvine with his wife and three children.

    Carey L. O'Bryan, M.D.

    Dr. Carey L. O'Bryan IV studied philosophy and pre-medicine at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California before attending medical school at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.  He studied medicine on a scholarship from the U.S. Air Force.  After graduating, he completed a residency in Internal Medicine, a Chief Resident year, and a Cardiology Fellowship at the Air Force's Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.  Subsequently, Dr. O'Bryan served as a cardiologist in the Air Force for three years and spent four months in 2003 evacuating wounded soldiers from Iraq and Kuwait.  Dr. O'Bryan is an invasive, non-interventional cardiologist who is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Nuclear Cardiology.  He has additional training in cardiac MRI.  Dr. O'Bryan resides in Huntington Beach with his wife and three children.
